    What will I experience?

    On this course you can:

    • Use our state-of-the-art environmental labs for practical work, including our harbourside marine teaching and research facility
    • Get the chance to visit the tropical forests of Belize to study terrestrial, watershed and marine ecology
    • Carry out a field project in Malta to learn about the country’s coastal ecology

    This course is accredited by the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES). It’s the first step towards professional certification which is increasingly required for chartered career progression and for environmental scientists to work in the UK and throughout the EU.
    Job opportunities are on the rise in areas such as recycling, waste management and contaminated land specialisms.

    Course Content

    Year one

    In the first year of your studies, you will be introduced to a wide range of environmental topics and issues. You’ll also have the option to transfer to the BSc (Hons) Marine Environmental Science after your first year.
    Core units in this year include:

    Year two

    The second year allows you to focus upon particular areas of interest as topics become more specialised.

    Year three

    Your third year will give you another selection of specialised units, as well as enabling you to develop environmental assessment techniques. This is also the year of your final project and there are plenty of opportunities for you to gain valuable research experience.

    UK requirements for international applications

    Universities in the United Kingdom use a centralized system of undergraduate application: University and College Admissions Service (UCAS). It is used by both domestic and international students. Students have to register on the UCAS website before applying to the university. They will find all the necessary information about the application process on this website. Some graduate courses also require registration on this website, but in most cases students have to apply directly to the university.     Both undergraduate and graduate students may receive three types of responses from the university. The first one, “unconditional offer” means that you already reached all requirements and may be admitted to the university. The second one, “conditional offer” makes your admission possible if you fulfill some criteria – for example, have good grades on final exams. The third one, “unsuccessful application” means that you, unfortunately, could not be admitted to the university of you choice.

    All universities require personal statement, which should include the reasons to study in the UK and the information about personal and professional goals of the student and a transcript, which includes grades received in high school or in the previous university.

    260-320 points to include 2 A levels or equivalent, with 80 points from a Science subject (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Environmental Science/Studies or Physics).
